We Showed Up at People’s Pitch — Here’s What We Heard & Why It Matters

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend People’s Pitch in Salt Lake City, Utah — an inspiring event run by Utah Advocacy that gives community members, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs the chance to present bold ideas and receive funding and support.

As I walked into the room full of visionaries, mission-driven teams, and local leaders, I was struck by how closely this event aligns with the values of Unauthorized Gains: community, growth, service.

Why People’s Pitch Matters

  • Giving voice to ideas. People’s Pitch empowers everyday residents to present solutions that matter in their neighborhoods — a platform for innovation powered by the community. Utah Advocacy Coalition
  • Bridging resources and grassroots. It connects ideas with funding, mentorship, and visibility.

  • Fostering collaboration. I met people working in social services, community advocacy, youth development, and more — everyone striving to make the World stronger.

Our Role There

While Unauthorized Gains didn’t pitch a project ourselves, being present was intentional. We’re building relationships, learning from local change-makers, and showing that we’re part of the same ecosystem of service and impact.

For us, every event is an opportunity to:

  • Learn what communities need (so we can better direct outreach or support)

  • Connect with organizations already doing good work — potential partners in wellness, community building, and first responder / veteran support

  • Reinforce our mission: supporting those who serve, and in turn, helping build healthier communities

What Resonated & What’s Next

  • I came away with new partnerships to explore — possible collaborative wellness or event ideas.

  • I’m committed to taking what I heard and translating it into actionable support (workshops, sponsorships, volunteer efforts) through Unauthorized Gains.

Community innovation starts when people are given a platform and listeners show up.

I hope to attend more People’s Pitch events in the future — and to be part of a bigger wave of listening, funding, and building together across Utah.
